Toy Shining - Illustrated Movie Mashup

Toy Shining

Illustrated Movie Mashup

After the release of Toy Story 3, I came up with the idea of using PIXAR characters to tell other stories. My friend and Pixar director, Lee Unkrich, is a big fan of Stanley Kubrick's movie The Shining, so I thought this would be a perfect place to start.

I started scribbling ideas on a post-it note of how the two movies could be combined and quickly ended up with a 25 panel storyboard. I expanded each of the sketches into more finished paintings using the Brushes app for the iPad over a period of 2 months.

Once completed, I printed a poster containing all of the paintings and gave it to Lee Unkrich in person during a visit to Pixar Animation Studios.
