About the story

In the second year of my Illustration with Animation course I was asked to pick from a selection of short stories and illustrate interesting scenes from it. I chose a story called A' Very Old Man with Enormous Wings' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The story is about an angel who comes to earth to protect a child. I decided to re-write aspects of the story to make it more contemporary.

I initially designed the characters to be quite cartoon like, but abandoned the idea for a darker more realistic illustration style. I shot a few reference images with my camera and storyboarded the main scenes of the action. Finally I picked a few of my favourite scenes and painted the final illustrations.
