In January 2011, I was invited to give a talk at Macworld 2011 as a featured artist. As part of my presentation I created a video showing some of the best examples of my iPad artwork.
The first step was to decide which iPad artwork I wanted to feature in the video and in what order. So I began working out the sequence with a series of quick sketches. I then exported videos of each iPad painting that I could composite on to the displays of virtual iPads. I used Motion from Final Cut Studio to build a 3D environment and used a virtual camera to navigate from iPad to iPad.
Once the sequence was working, I added the music track from my friend Richard Woolgar and started refining the animation to match the music. For the end of the video I decided it would be great to have all of my iPad paintings form a wall images and conclude by landing on an iPad display and appear like the iPad's camera roll. I achieved this by using a camera perspective trick where the angle of view is reduced to make the scene appear 2D.
